Peter Noonan, Director

Peter’s areas of expertise and interest are in education and training policy, financing, strategic planning and evaluation.

Over more than 20 years, Peter has played a major role in shaping policy directions in vocational education and training (VET), higher education and post-compulsory education in Australia.

Peter’s recent major projects include:

  • Review of post-secondary education and training for the Queensland State Government
  • Feasibility of a national schooling recurrent resource standard
  • Implementation of the Victorian training guarantee in Victorian TAFE Institutes
  • Expert advice to the Victorian Essential Services Commission for its Review of VET fees and charges and funding arrangements

Peter was General Manager at the Australian National Training Authority where he played a key role in shaping the national VET system. Peter was also the former Deputy Director General (VET) in the Queensland Department of Employment Training and Industrial Relations, General Manager of the State Training Board of Victoria, an adviser to the Federal Minister for Employment Education and Training a member of the Expert Panel for the Review of Australian Higher Education (Bradley Review).

Peter holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Australia. He is an Associate of the Faculty of Education, Monash University, is an Honorary Fellow in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne and was a recipient of a Fulbright Award.
